I want you so bad

I want you so bad its driving me mad.

Kidding; not really but it would be great to own one of this as its within my budget for a new decent guitar to play. It’s almost close to the tone that I’m looking for, something twangy but at the same time has the punch and kick of the glorious humbuckers. I find my Ibanez RG2570ex a little bit too loud and too dirty for the bands that I usually play with. Probably I might modify the pickups into something more ‘vintage’ in tone. Let’s just see how it goes.

Oh, where art thou?

June 8th, 2008

Was busy for the past few weeks. Sorry for no updated blog posts here. Most of the project deadlines at around the corner and will be over with soon.

On the other hand, I will be playing with my band at Fête de la musique in Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur on 21st June at 7.15pm sharp. The songs lists kind of weird… Dark Forest (Hard Rock), Boomba (Funk) and Little Wing (Classic Rock). I hope I don’t screw up anything in between.

I have very high expectations for this album. Produced by the great Rick Rubin. There’s a website created specially for the new album as reported by Rock Radio.

The Guitar Effects Craze.

February 20th, 2008

Other than enjoy doing what I do for a living, I have do enjoy playing the guitar. And I do love a great guitar setup with all sorts of effects to create a really sweet & nice guitar tone. Like how Tom Morella making his guitar sound like a harmonica out of his setup or Steve Vai’s crazy laughing guitar stunts via his setup.

Over the years, the following is my setup:

Things come and go but I have added the following since:

  1. Boss DS1
  2. Artec Soloist Distortion
  3. Morley Classic Wah
  4. Danelectro FAB Echo
  5. Boss DD6 (Getting my reserved unit weekend!)

In looking for pedals, I always consider the following:

  1. Tone – Blunt or sharp, overtones or has less tonal output?
  2. Sound – Warm, round, fat, thin, loud, femine, rough, harsh, dirty, etc?
  3. Durability – Can it stand abuse?
  4. Looks – It has to be cool..
  5. Necessity – Do you really need a Fuzz unit to play like Eddie Van Halen?
  6. Value – If I were to sell it to someone else, will it be appreciated as much as a new unit?
  7. Benifits – Can this little pedal help me tap better?

To get the stuff you want, you got to know the trick of the trade. Some stores will give a better price, some through blogs, some forums, contacts, junk shops, etc. For starters, here are some cool sites to check:

  1. Awakening KL’s Stompbox Classifieds Blog (A friends recording studio & pratice studio)
  2. Rockok Music Website (Trust me this one is really cool)
  3. Gapnap’s Gear Sale (He’s got really cool stuff sometimes)
  4. Guitarist’s Wishlist (Prestigious Boutique Pedals)
  5. ToneZone Studio (Passionate people doing their part)
  6. LowYat’s Garage Sales page (Updates on post almost ever hour)
  7. Jamtank.com Classifieds ( The place where local musicians trade)
  8. Jamtank.net Classifieds (The newer place where local musicians trade)

Some really cool boutique pedals can be seen as below:

The value of these things not only depend on their tone but also the country of origin, the year of which it was made, the brand and finally looks. You can check out some setups on guitargeek.com. Plus plenty other support forums for guitar effects pedals.

Hello, good morning, how you do?

U2 3D Movie

January 26th, 2008

 u23d.jpg

Bono, Edge, Adam & Larry does it again. Turning heads and breaking into new grounds. This time, in 3D!  Namely U23D. It seems that this movie will usher in a new era of 3D concert films. Probably they might have some really super out-of-this-world effects to cater to such expectations. Released two days ago on the 24th of January. Reviews and comments about the show are all over the internet. A pretty personal interview with producer/co-director Catherine Owens can be found at U23D’s blog right here.

Too bad there is no screening in IMAX at Times Square in Bukit Bintang. I’ve always always wanted to go to a U2 concert. When will they have their stop in Kuala Lumpur? It seems like big bands prefer to stop at our neighbors rather than around here. I wonder why. I seriously wonder why.
