Take care of the design industry

“The challenge that lies ahead for us all is to explore how much more design can deliver – in our client relationships, in integrating more skills into the design process and in demonstrating the impact and the intellectual foundation of our work.”

“Our world is populated by clients who have worked with design consultancies on more than one occasion. They are savvy and understand what it takes to get the best out of their design partners.”

“One of our greatest strengths compared to other sectors such as management consulting is that we can turn our thinking into tangible solutions consumers can experience.”

” We still have to work hard at demonstrating the value we can contribute to our clients’ business.”

Rune Gustafson, Brain power, Design week.

Isn’t it extremely common to hear things like that? But then, things like this make many sense at certain times.

When trapped into the void of a tight deadline on a job needed to be done, we tend to forget advices left by our ancestors to ensure the legacy is continued. That we should also take buying relationships as serious as the work we actually do. The Photoshop filters, the layouts on Indesign and the illustrations on Illustrator are as important as what our clients actually can gain out of all the fancy stuff we make.

We have to take care of the industry. This little design industry where sometimes, we get too comfortable with beautiful things.
