Playstation 3 & Spiderman 3

President Ken Kutaragi of Sony insisted that they recycle the Spidey typeface for use on the new Playstation3. Homoarakhn, the typefaces name, is available for free here. Now everybody can be Spiderman. Why wouldn’t they use another typeface? It’s just too alike don’t you think. Now, my guess is that Playstation 3 might have created a certain identity crisis among users, competing against visually, themselves.

“If you really look at the PS3 contour carefully, it is rounded when viewing the console in profile. Rather than creating a typography with all the risks that entails, it was wiser to use the one from Spider-Man, for which Sony has the right.”

Reading the report further suggest that it was the typeface that shaped the design of the unit.

Why? Why?! (I actually thought of saving money to get one..)

  • Prior to its release, I was curious because people were saying that it was really cool so I decided that if it's really that cool, why not get one of those things since I never actually play any video games ever since high school. Found about the typeface thing. Yes, it's a little silly not to buy it because of some typeface but goodness, it cost RM3800 (!) In view of this, perfection is primary (!)
