Wednesday oh Wednesday

February 28th, 2007

Here’s what Wednesday sounds like:

8.30am: Alarm rang. Time to wake up.

9.00am: Honey + cookies for breakfast. Both from Chinese New Year leftovers.

9.50am: Head for work, today, I will wear slippers instead of sandles.

9.55am: Forgot sketchbook, return home.

10.30am: After checking mails & replying, time to:

  • 1) get down to unfinished work from yesterday.
  • 2) execute ideas that caused nightmare’s last night.
  • 3) make sure that whatever needs to be done today is planned in mind.
  • 4) look out for new MP3s available for downloads.

10.45am: No music.. I will listen to The Best of James Bond for start.

1.15pm: A pleasant suprise call from a friend asking for lunch. Sure.

2.00pm: Meets with friend and heads for lunch at Food Foundry (the previous chef left.. quite disapointing..)

3.00pm: Heads back to office.

3.20pm: Continue working.

4.00pm: Found K.C Accidental – Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub album for download! Yeah!

4.20pm: Still downloading…..

4.30pm: Okay. Maybe today’s getting a little long. But there’s a meeting tomorrow to discuss about an upcoming annual report to be done. Need to maintain focus.

4.32pm: Maybe, should do something else, brains not flowing.

4.40pm: Need to backup a recent website that was hacked unknowingly when the Chinese New Year holidays were on—at least can do something..

5.00pm: Still working further on the hacked website. Maybe some enhancements needed on the security patches. Hackers… :(

5.30pm: Back to research. The internet is a powerful tool but resources seem to be unappreciatedly dumped across. Sometimes, Google doesn’t really help much. Need to look at examples & think of other things (global warming, pasar malam, etc.)

6.00pm: Okay, I think i will wrap up here. inspiration & ideas don’t come in my office seat.

6.20pm: Home.

After this: Call mum & ask about food.

Guitar Player Covers Observed

February 26th, 2007

Here’s what Guitar Player magazine looked like in year 1994:

old magazine cover

Didn’t change much years later:

old magazine cover

Then, Pentagram did this to them:

pentagram came in...

Later on, dudes like these:

guitar world guitar one

made it look like this:

guitar player feb 2007 edition

I thought that change was very temporial. Guitar Player is published by New Bay Media LCC while both Guitar World & Guitar One is published by Future Network USA. Other competing magazines such as Guitar Techniques & Total Guitar, Guitarist are under Future Publishing Limited London.

Catch is they seem to be stuck in the middle of the both giants.

Chinese New Year Special

February 19th, 2007

There’s this really weird New Year Song that’s not in the market entitled ‘Bobo’. Download here.

Beginning with this (part 2)

February 14th, 2007

Yup. Every student given assignment is indeed a challenge to be completed in the time span of three months. It always starts with a short lecture of introduction. Moving on to a few case studies and basic principles concerning the subject and then further on moving towards examples; which are often imitated by some—culprit. At this point usually, the learner is expected to have come up with a certain title, or in other words, ‘Which topic/company/individual you want to do for your work?”

Usually, examples that are brought by lecturers are really nice ones. For example, when Mr. Bodoni brought some font samples into my class back then, I’m not sure if this happen to anyone but people do have their wishlists and ‘drool–list‘. What more if a fontshop sample book or catalog is brought in! Nevertheless, the rest of the gang.

But the below, was tought by Mr. Minimalist. It was a really thoughtful one back then. All the little desires to be dirty on the canvas were cleaned up, pratically for functionalism. Grids were placed in a more challenging way eg; try using even–numbers for grid to be safe or look for trouble in odd–numbers. Besides, it saves many time if you look for the proper tools to work with and not be skeptical about unknown working methods.

Type back then was learned to be flushed correctly and evenly throught every spread. Details, were hunted down like wild–ducks.

This one, also, nothing much to be proud of here was a very interesting one. What could be better to find out that spray–mount are very useful during that period of time?

You might be asking why all this old stuff. Or maybe why should one want to post school work. Answer is: I thought this would be a good thing to start with.

Ah… whatever, this is not completed yet anyway. Enjoy this:

Epiphone Les Paul Special Edition

epiphone les paul special edition

I just bought one (first edition) for RM400! With Duncan pickups (!)

Funny thing is I still don’t own an amp.

gill sans assignment

That is a spread taken from one of designs while I was studying in my previous college (Second ‘art’ college in line).

gill sans assignment

Absolutely nothing to be proud of here really. As shown, it has this really weird 6 column grid–system wacked on an A5 sized booklet. Together with it, I just learned how to use photoshop and found out how to use the Multiply & Transparency tool in it’s most basic way together with hearing a little about the fact that CMYK is used for printing. Not forgetting my favourite tool once upon a time in my effort to be like David Carson, the Blur tool. Coming in handy with it, the Eraser tool with morphic shapes. Also, learned that you need to bleed certain page’s and also scorn in between spreads for accurate folding. I learned all this, not very long ago, in April 2005, as a second year student.
I am really, not a very good designer. Just trying.
